When: Thursday, November 12, 8:30am – 5pm

Where: A Canine Experience

Description:

Four full days dedicated to Social Responsibility, Spring Pole, Weight Pull and Defensive Tactics.

What is GRC?

Gameness, Relationship and Control.

GRC Dog Sports is a new breed of dog sport club. It seeks to celebrate and test not only the dog’s gameness, but the relationship with the handler, and the dog’s self control. For more information see: https://www.grcdogsports.com/

November 12-13:Play As The Way: Social Responsibility Foundations:

This will discuss the concept of using play based training to teach the skills needed for social responsibility. Participants will learn the several novel ways to use food including the Treat Chase Game, and how to use structured Personal Play. You will learn the Red Light Green Light Game on a retractable leash, as well as Pressure And Release, and a complete system of tactical leash handling skills. The Rub Down to put relaxation on cue will also be covered. This Seminar should give you all the skills you need to prepare to pass GRC Dogsports Social Responsibility Test if you choose to pursue that goal.

November 14, Play As The Way: Sport Foundations:

We’ll introduce you to the world of GRC Dogsports Drive Sports. There will be work on The basics of Toy Play and Harness Acclimation. We’ll also introduce the Spring Pole and Weight Pull. You’ll learn how to use indirect rewards. And, learn the difference between Supportive Games and the Competitive Games most people use in training. These ideas will take your work to the next level even if you don’t want to pursue any actual sport titles.

November 15, Canine Defensive Tactics (no dogs):

This workshop will be active. But will be without attendee's dogs. We will discuss defending outside targets from a dog you are working. Breaking up dog fights. And, defending yourself from dogs. We will practice techniques. And discuss using training games with dogs as a way to develop your skills. If possible…. We will arrange for a local protection/law enforcement trainer to bring a dog and bite gear so everyone that wants to, can catch a few bites and better understand the experience. This should be a required class for anyone working with dogs in any capacity. Not just “trainers”. This workshop can be a stand alone event or added as another day to another workshop.

BONUS: Social Responsibility Testing in the evenings.
